From the minute the automatic door opened and we stepped foot in the luxurious marble lobby, I knew this was going to be a grand experience. We looked up and admired the stained glass ceilings as we sipped on our welcome cocktails. I felt so privileged to be there.
After being escorted to our room without having to lift a finger, we were excited to open our door. There it was, our room for week, in its glory. I hesitate to even refer to it as a room – it was more like our own personal spa. A modern king size bed with black wood accents, a huge Jacuzzi overlooking the marvellous ocean, slippers and robes in the washroom and a stone glass-door shower. We immediately opened our balcony door to admire our oceanfront view, take in the fresh tropical breeze off the water and (oh yes,) swing in our hammock.
To say we were impressed would be an understatement.
Although Cancun is a windy spot, the ocean water at Moon Palace remains generally calm because it’s tucked away in its own area, away from heavy waves and the party life on the main strip. The main attraction at this resort is the pools, though. Several massive lagoon style pools meander through the resort, under bridges for the kiddies to play under. There are also two designated kids pools; one with a friendly-looking crocodile slide -- they pop out of his mouth! For teens, there’s a surf simulator they can try for free and swimming with the dolphins on the property.
Currently, they offer a $1500 resort credit per room. You can use this towards land excursions (visiting the Mayan ruins perhaps? swimming with the dolphins?), golfing, the spa (sign me up!), romantic dining packages and much more. You pay 16-20% taxes on the portion you use, but it’s still a great deal. Also, did I mention every room gets a Jacuzzi, regardless of room category? And you get unlimited calling to USA and Canada from your room? Fantastic.

As for the dining – it was absolutely sensational. Believe me, as a former food blogger, I have high expectations, and I was blown away. Boasting 13 exceptional restaurants, you have so much to choose from. My personal favourities were Los Caporales (Mexican) and Momo (Asian). La Trattoria (Italian formal dining) was also “delicioso”.
The service and hospitality by each and every employee was hands-down the best I have ever received. They would go out of their way to help you and attend to your every need. All with a friendly, warm manner. The enthusiasm was contagious; the positivity is booming throughout the whole resort.
It really was like a palace. The name suits it! Experience Moon Palace with your family and spend a day or two at the beautiful turquoise ocean waters of Beach Palace (where you have access to all amenities – food/drink too!). You also have access to Sun Palace, another beautiful property, but this is 18+, couples-only.
